Access global configuration via the top-left dropdown menu.

General Configuration #

Technical details: Toggles visibility of low-level metadata, including IRIs and SPARQL queries.
Tree visibility: Hides empty or deactivated classes in the class tree.

Troubleshoot and Reset #

Reset local data: Clears browser-side preferences (e.g., columns visibility, width, and position).
Reset graph data: Performs a “Factory Reset” of the analysis for the current dataset.

The Exploration Canvas #

The exploration canvas is the primary workspace in SemSpect. It displays the exploration tree, allowing users to manipulate layout, throttle data density, and rapidly locate resources within the detailed groups.

The top toolbar controls the exploration tree rendering and positioning.

Rendering and Positioning #

Zooming: Use [+] / [-] buttons or the mouse wheel to adjust magnification.
Clearance: Adjusts the spacing between groups to reduce overlap.
- Horizontal clearance: Adjusts left-right distance.
- Vertical clearance: Adjusts top-down distance.
Fit to view: Click the “target” icon to center and zoom the exploration tree to fit all groups within the viewport.

History (Undo/Redo) #

SemSpect maintains a session history stack.

Groups #

Groups are sets of resources with the same class that are the starting and branching points of the aggregated traversals represented by the exploration tree. This page covers the group details and their histograms, the exploration expansion from a group, and the group level operations.

Selecting a group opens the group details in the right pane.

The Resources Table of a Group #

The resources table of a group is a highly configurable tabular listing of all resources of the group and their data properties.

To open it, click the blue Show resource table... button that appears at the bottom of the canvas when a group is selected, or right-click the group to open its context menu and select Show resource table.

Most investigations require isolating individual resources at some point for closer inspection. This page covers the resource details pane, the highlighting and flagging tools, and single resource traversals.

Resource Details #

Select a visible resource in a group or its row in the group table to open the Details in the right pane. It displays the resource identity and data properties.

In SemSpect, the connection beams between groups represent sets of object property assertions. This page covers visual connection information, underlying edge data inspection, and traversals filtering.

Connectivity Visualization #

When a group with visible resources is expanded, or when a connected group directly to its right is updated, it is rerendered to update the visual connectivity information carried by the color of the resource dots:

Dark Gray: There is no group to the right, or the resource has at least one connection of the correct type to one of the resources in at least one of the groups to the right.
Light Gray (Dimmed): There is at least one group to the right, and the resource does not have any connection of the correct type to any of the resources in the groups to the right.

Persistence

SemSpect provides mechanisms to persist analysis logic, annotate findings, and extend the class taxonomy. This page covers saving and sharing explorations, group annotations, and user-defined classes.

Dynamic Persistence

Saved items preserve the query logic (the sequence of expansions and filters), not a static snapshot of data. If the underlying dataset changes, loading a saved exploration will reflect the current state of the database.

Saved Explorations #

A saved exploration preserves the structure of the analysis: classes of the groups, expansion steps, applied filters, and group annotations.
