The SemSpect Neo4j Plugin requires a commercial license for full functionality. Please send your requirements to licensing@semspect.de.
Remarks:
- The SemSpect Neo4j Plugin can unfortunately not be installed on Neo4j Aura (see FAQ)
- We provide licenses free of charge for academic and open data projects under certain conditions.
The price of the SemSpect Neo4j license is per DBMS instance and depends on the number of concurrent sessions:

We grant discounts for additional instances, multi-year licenses and up-front payment.
A DBMS instance refers to a deployment of the SemSpect Neo4j plugin to one active Neo4j DBMS. There are not restrictions on the number of databases managed by the DBMS.
We use a floating licensing model where a session corresponds to a user continuously interacting with the software over a period of time. Each user accessing the software via a web browser is automatically assigned a session from a shared pool. After a configurable period of non-use, the session is released, making it available for other users. The number of allowed concurrent sessions is encoded in the license file.
Remark: due to technical restrictions, different browsers and/or separate browser environments are considered to be different users.

Limitations of the Free Version #
- Single time-restricted sticky session: During the runtime of the Neo4J DBMS, only one browser can connect to SemSpect. The first browser accessing SemSpect receives the only available session that is valid for 8 hours. This session does not expire after a period of inactivity like a regular session. Further usage requires a restart of the DBMS.
- Maximum of 7 groups in an exploration: The total number of groups in an exploration is limited to 7.
- At most 3 SemSpect labels resp. saved explorations: Users can specify a maximum of 3 SemSpect labels and save a maximum of 3 explorations.
- No access to Cypher query: The display of the Cypher queries that retrieve the nodes of a group or the contents of a table view is not available.
- Data download restriction of 10 entries: The CSV download of data in tabular views is limited to the first 10 entries.
- No download of exploration graph image: The PNG and SVG image download of exploration graphs is not available.
Academic and Open Data Licenses #
We provide licenses free of charge for academic and open data projects.
By requesting an academic or open data license, you agree that derivo GmbH may mention your project and/or your group as SemSpect user in its marketing activities.
Moreover, a 15 minutes video interview to collect feedback on your usage of the application will be required for a renewal of the initial 6 months license.
